Radiographer
POSITION OVERVIEW:
To provide high-quality diagnostic imaging services while supervising the operations of the X-ray department. The role ensures compliance with hospital standards, patient safety protocols, equipment maintenance, and effective coordination with physicians and other hospital departments.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Radiological Procedures and Patient Care
- Perform diagnostic X-ray examinations and other radiological procedures as prescribed by physicians.
- Conduct C-Arm fluoroscopy procedures in the operating room environment when required.
- Prepare patients for radiological procedures by providing clear instructions regarding the examination.
- Position patients appropriately and adjust equipment settings to obtain optimal diagnostic images.
- Ensure patient comfort, dignity, and safety during all imaging procedures.
- Ensure timely processing of radiological images and make results available to referring physicians or surgeons.
- Operate radiology equipment safely and efficiently to produce accurate diagnostic images.
- Perform routine equipment checks and coordinate with biomedical staff for scheduled maintenance.
- Ensure equipment remains functional, properly calibrated, and ready for use.
- Report equipment malfunctions promptly to appropriate personnel including the Facilities Director and Director of Hospital and Field Work Operations.
- Recommend acquisition of new equipment, modifications, or necessary improvements to the department.
Quality Assurance and Compliance
- Ensure high-quality diagnostic X-rays are produced for all patients.
- Perform regular quality control measures to maintain optimal image quality.
- Adhere to hospital standards regarding patient care, safety, treatment protocols, documentation, and radiography safety practices.
- Apply the professional code of ethics in all aspects of radiology practice.
- Lead and participate in departmental quality improvement activities in accordance with hospital standards.
Department Supervision and Staff Management
- Supervise and assign daily tasks and responsibilities junior staff and interns working in the X-ray department.
- Ensure adequate task allocation during staff absences to maintain continuous departmental operations.
- Provide training and guidance to staff, interns, and other personnel when required regarding imaging procedures and equipment usage.
Records Management and Documentation
- Maintain accurate and complete records of radiological procedures and examinations.
- Ensure proper storage, maintenance, and confidentiality of records in both manual and electronic systems.
- Ensure proper documentation and entries are maintained in accordance with hospital policies.
Supplies and Inventory Management
- Prepare requisitions for radiology supplies and consumables.
- Maintain accurate inventory records and monitor usage levels.
- Ensure continuous availability of X-ray consumables and necessary materials.
- Ensure proper preparation and availability of processing chemicals when required.
Communication and Collaboration
- Communicate effectively with physicians regarding imaging procedures, patient concerns, and results.
- Collaborate with nurses, surgeons, and other healthcare professionals to support patient care.
- Work closely with other hospital departments and wards to meet their imaging service requirements.
Licensing, Policies, and Administrative Functions
- Process and maintain annual licensing for all X-ray equipment.
- Develop and recommend policies, procedures, rules, and protocols for radiology services.
- Implement approved departmental policies and operational procedures.
OTHER DUTIES
- Uphold the highest standards of quality and efficiency in line with hospital quality programs (e.g. Safecare, DOH, etc.) requirements.
- Ensure a safe and secure work environment by strictly adhering to infection prevention and control protocols such as but not limited to handwashing, wearing of PPE, etc.
- Commit to sustainable and eco-friendly work practices by minimizing waste, optimizing resource usage and actively participating in initiatives that promote environmental stewardship.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum Education Required: Diploma in Radiology those with a Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Technology will have an added advantage.
- Licenses/Certifications required.
- At least 8 years experience in operating x-ray, ultrasound and C-Arm Fluoroscopy technologies is preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge of standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field of radiology
- Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe working environment Ability to handle multiple tasks, establish priorities and work independently
- Ability to handle confidential documents in an appropriate manner
