Senior Manager/Supervisor

 

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Nursing Manager/Director is a member of the Senior Management Team (SMT) and is responsible for the nursing care within the CURE Hospital. They manage staff, have budgeting responsibilities, are involved with recruitment and carry out disciplinary action when required. The Nursing Manager/Director ensures that each patient care department is up to standard and follows relevant policies and guidelines. They will supervise budgeting and order processing for the department while overseeing nursing programs. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Nursing Management

  1. Serve as a liaison between nursing staff, doctors, and healthcare administrators. 
  2. Encourage and motivate staff; create a supportive patient care environment. 
  3. Formulate policies and procedures for the nursing department and ensure staff training. 
  4. Oversee and implement changes to nursing best practices such as shift changes and infection prevention procedures. 
  5. Recruit, onboard and train new nursing staff.
  6. Develop short-term and long-term goals for the department such as staffing goals, procedural goals, and standard of care goals. 
  7. Supervise all nursing department staff. 
  8. Set nursing staff schedules and monitoring of nursing staff ratios. 
  9. Conduct and document periodic nurse performance evaluations. 
  10. Ensure that the nursing department complies with local and international policies, and regulations.
  11. Oversee nursing department budget formulation and monitor utilization.
  12. Develop capacity for nurse leadership and succession planning. 
  13. Complete required monthly reporting.
  14. May be required to be on call.

Nursing Practice

  1. Monitor the outcomes for quality nursing care and ensure the nursing process is implemented. 
  2. Develop and strengthen patient care handover and communication processes. 
  3. Ensure implementation of nursing surgical safety measures (pre and post-operative). 
  4. Identify nursing practice gaps regularly. 
  5. Implement regular capacity building initiatives for all nurses based on patient care needs and identify training modules. 
  6. Strengthen effective nursing documentation and develop the relevant tools. 
  7. Implement patient and family education processes. 
  8. Take occasional shifts on the ward and work directly with patients to maintain clinical knowledge and skills. 

 

Quality and Patient Safety

  1. Monitor and keep to date the Nursing Quality indicators dashboard and use the data and information for improvement of nursing processes. 
  2. Report and investigate all patient sentinel events and use the recommendations for improvement. 
  3. Implement patient safety measures are put in place to include prevention of falls, medication errors, etc.
  4. Strengthen and implement safe medication administration and monitoring processes. 
  5. Implement closed and open chart audits of nursing documentation and use outcomes for improvement. 
  6. Ensure implementation of SafeCare standards requirements (especially the Clinical and Nursing related). 
  7. Support and participate in various QPS (Quality and Patient Safety) committees and internal audits. 
  8. Identify nursing practice gaps and conduct a QI (quality improvement) project. 

 

Infection Prevention and Control (IPC)

  1. Implement the Infection Prevention and Control Program, policies and procedures. 
  2. Ensure that IPC staff trainings are done on a quarterly basis. 
  3. Monitor and use hospital acquired infections surveillance and use information for process improvements. 
  4. Implement the waste management program, policies and procedures. 

 

Other duties

  1. Participate in the QPS monthly quorums. 
  2. Any other duties assigned within the CURE International policies.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Master’s degree in Nursing from a recognized institution, with a current license to practice with no restrictions is required.
  2. Applicants with a degree in Nursing and a Master's degree in Nursing Administration, Healthcare Management, or related leadership qualication will be considered. 
  3. Minimum of 8 years of post-education experience, with at least 2 years in pediatric nursing.
  4. Minimum of three (3) years of experience Senior Leadership Position or Supervising Teams.  
  5. Experience in quality management certification or accreditation (SafeCare or JCIA). 
  6. Experience in clinical policies and procedures formulation. 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  1. Strong leadership and communication skills.
  2. Excellent analytical and writing skills. 
  3. Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. 
  4. Computer proficiency in the applications/software used by CURE.
  5. Excellent knowledge of standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field of nursing.
  6. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe working environment.
  7. Strong supervisory, education and performance evaluation skills.
  8. Strong documentation skills including the ability to quantify and report in writing the outputs, outcomes, and impact of Nursing Department activities on a regular basis.
  9. Ability to work with numbers, including basic analysis abilities.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
