Hospital Storyteller (Contractor)
CURE is seeking candidates for possible future opportunities as a Storyteller at one of its hospitals. The Storyteller acts as a liaison and connection among the CURE programs, the Mission Support Center (MSC), and the growing community of friends and supporters of CURE.
The Storyteller's primary responsibilities involve the collection, authoring, and uploading of media to support the CUREkids Program, the Hero Program, as well as other communications meant for use on the Internet and in print both for the MSC and in support of the local hospital's marketing and donor support needs. The Storyteller is essentially the eyes and ears of CURE, documenting the lives of those the organization gets to serve.
This is a two-year contract assignment with the opportunity for renewal.
The Storyteller responsibilities are:
Document overall life and activity at the hospital. Highlight staff, visitors, events, celebrations, spiritual outreaches, medical clinics and training through blogs, photo essays, video and social media posts.
Document the overall experience of children who are undergoing treatment at a CURE hospital.
Gather basic information on patients including contact information, parent/guardian information, before/after photos, story and treatment dates as needed for local hospital donor reporting.
Each week, produce 3 publishable profiles for the CUREkids website which includes gathering this information: a) digital header photo of the child and child's condition b) contact information, parent/guardian information, before/after photos, story and treatment dates c) gather quotes from the child and/or from their parent(s)/guardian(s) to use in an initial paragraph-length story, intended to introduce supporters to the child
Provide status updates on each published child for every appointment he/she attends including:
Pictures and/or videos documenting his/her clinic visit and experience.
Updates on treatment schedules/rescheduling as it relates to the child.
An overall explanation of treatment progress and feedback from the parent/guardian/child on their experience and opportunities that the child now has because of healing.
Other Storyteller responsibilities include:
Collaborate with the Spiritual Department and/or Child Mentor at the local hospital for spiritual content regarding the child and child's family that can be added in order to develop a holistic story during their stay and updates for the future.
Fulfill a role in supporting the marketing needs and donor support of the local hospital.
Provide communications support to the Advancement team including:
Quarterly hospital highlights
Quarterly spiritual highlights
Produce and deliver blog pieces, Photos of the Week, and content for social media to the CUREkids Manager and Digital Marketing Manager.
Provide weekly status reports to the CUREkids Manager.
Complete weekly check-in with the Executive Director and/or Spiritual Director at the local hospital in order to assess the hospital's marketing and/or donor support needs.
Participate in audio calls and monthly teleconference meetings as directed by the CUREkids Manager.
Be an active participant in helping to host and represent CURE to individuals who visit the hospital.
Qualified candidates for this position will possess the following:
Bachelors degree in Photojournalism, Photography, Communications, Marketing or related degree, or equivalent amount of related experience.
Minimum of 1-2 years experience with photography, videography and photojournalism.
Experience with Internet social media tools including Facebook, Skype, YouTube, Twitter, blogs and email.
Experience using, or exposure to, Adobe Lightroom and Final Cut Pro X, or related software.
Experience using, or exposure to, Mac OS X.
Previous experience serving overseas preferred, but not required.
Passionate about the mission of CURE.
Love for children and their families.
Comfortable working in a medical setting.
Advanced photography and video competence regarding DSLR cameras, lighting, composition, editing ,etc.
Excellent ability to write and communicate in short-form for a western audience.
Written and spoken fluency with the English language.
