Position Overview
The Hospital security Guard (HSG) is a very visible hospital employee, often greeting patients when they enter the facility. Reporting to the Security Lead, the incumbent is expected to protect people, property, information and reputation within the Hospital  premises. The HSG responds rapidly to security emergencies within the hospital or health care setting and is also responsible for policing hospital buildings and grounds to prevent fire, theft, vandalism and illegal entry. The HSG also assists medical staff with unruly visitors and patients, alleviates the hospital safety and work environmental conditions. Key Responsibilities:

1.Crime Prevention
  • Ensuring only authorized persons are permitted onto Hospital premises, and other CURE properties situated outside the Hospital
  • Monitoring the temporary out pass for equipment/stores by issuing a fixed validity leading to automatic check and enquiry about reasons for non-return of the item
  • Providing a visible deterrent to crime and prohibiting activities by patrolling buildings and hospital ground
  • Using the gate pass system to check and control the entry/exit of stores and equipment, maintaining/updating hospital security systems as required on a regular basis
  • Making sure that the premises are locked and secure during non-working hours 
  • Preventing losses and damages by reporting any irregularities
  • Completing reports by recording any occurrences
  • Ensuring proper security checks by searching(vehicles and bags)
2.Safety Environment
  • Providing rapid response of security Aides calling for support/ backup
  • Checking budges and credentials to ensure a visitor, patient or doctors are where they are supposed to be
  • Support the Hospital in Infection and Prevention process
  • Protecting people, property, information and reputation within BCCHM
  • Examining visitors and removing intruders accordingly
  • Responding rapidly to security emergencies within the hospital
  • Maintaining a visible patrol for the entire hospital premises by foot and ensuring the physical safety of all visitors and employees at the hospital
  • Ensuring cars are parked at designated places only and are safe
  • Enforcing infection prevention and control activities among staff/patients on entry onto hospital premises
  • Checking availability of COVID 19 prevention measures.
3. Accident and Danger Prevention           
  • Taking preventative measures to ensure that the building is safe and secure
  • Checking fire alarms and any situation that may be a fire hazard
  • Ensuring that security alarms and running drills are appropriately taken care of
  • Monitoring fire alarms, smoke detectors, electronic equipment and to repair broken security systems and 
  • Ensuring that the building and its occupants remain calm and confident if a disaster were to strike

  • During emergencies activate fire alarms to communicate with the ire department
  • Assisting crowd control and evacuation
  • Providing leadership during emergencies
  • Working with patients relations front desk in providing BCCHM customer service standards
4. Customer Care
  • Building and maintaining favorable image of BCCHM through activities and interaction with others
  • Serving as a resource/consultant for other Department in relation to security guard expertise
  • Assisting with restraining individuals who pose safety risk and handling of visitors who are rowdy and creating nuisance in the hospital premises
  • Maintaining and filling accurate daily reports for the incoming and outgoing patients, visitors and staff
  • Receiving hospital deliveries at night or during public holidays and escort patients if needed
  • Interacting with the outsourced security, providing BCCHM customer service standards
         
Required Qualification and Experience
The Security Guard is required to have the following:
  • Malawi School Certificate of Education(MSCE)
  • Comprehension of English, ability to receive basic instructions, physically fit-able to run, climb and wield riot stick
  • Good eyesight, with or without glasses
  • Ability to write neat concise reports for handovers and to record any incidents
  • Computer literate (Basic Computer Knowledge)
  • Self-defense training/martial arts background
  • Those with Security Awareness Certification will have an added advantage
  • Minimum 5 years experience in security management
