SUMMARY :
The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality post-anesthesia care to children following surgery. This role requires particular attention to the specific needs of children during post-operative recovery and close collaboration with medical and surgical teams.
Responsibilities:
Post-Operative Care:
- Monitor patients' vital signs and assess their post-anesthesia health status.
- Ensure the comfort and safety of patients in the recovery room.
- Administer medications and treatments prescribed by doctors.
- Manage post-operative pain using child-friendly techniques.
- Other duties as designated by the Nurse Manager or Medical Director
- Work closely with anesthesiologists, surgeons and other members of the medical team.
- Inform and reassure parents about their child's state of health and the care provided.
- Document care and observations accurately and in accordance with hospital protocols.
- Communicates effectively with patients, families, and staff which include physicians, therapises, and nurses.
- Works as an effective team member to coordinate care with staff
- React quickly and effectively in the event of post-operative complications such as but not limited to : respiratory or cardiac decompensation, uncontrolled pain
- Use medical equipment appropriately to ensure resuscitation and stabilization of patients.
- Complies with training and education requirements as mandated by the medical director and/or nursing manager
- Participates in continuing education and professional development sessions as mandated by the medical director and/or nursing manager
- Provides teaching to caregivers (parents) and patients regarding post-operative care at home.
- State Nursing Diploma or equivalent.
- Bachelor's degree in nursing
- Documented experience in post-anesthesia care, preferably in pediatrics.
- 2 to 3 years experience in recovery room care.
- Certification in pediatric intensive care (PALS) or equivalent.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work on a team.
- Ability to handle stressful situations and make quick decisions.
- Empathy, patience, and sensitivity to the needs of children and their families.
- Attention to detail with excellent observational skills.
- Time management and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Commitment to patient and family-centered care.
- Commitment to education and learning new skills.
