POSITION OVERVIEW:

Employed on a two year contract, the position holder will provide rehabilitation services to both in and out patients under the guidance of the physiotherapist.

Key Responsibilities

  • Management of clubfoot using the Ponseti method.
  • Application of back slabs and plaster of Paris (POP).
  • Training patients how to use mobility aids which have been prescribed by the physiotherapist.
  • Provide therapy within the scope of practice as stipulated by the Malawi Medical Council.
  • Assisting the physiotherapist in procedures that require multiple personnel to handle the patient.
  • Adhere to established standards of patient care; for instance, treatment protocols and documentation.
  • Ensure patient needs and their progress are communicated to the physiotherapist as appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate treatment notes which give a clinical record of the treatment intervention given.
  • Demonstrate ongoing personal development by undergoing relevant CPD activities as may be organised inside and outside the hospital.
  • Report any malfunction of equipment to the physiotherapist as soon as possible.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the physiotherapist.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

  • Diploma in Medical Rehabilitation
  • Medical Council of Malawi licensure and credentialing
  • 2-5 years work experience.
  • Knowledge of protocols for rehabilitation of children with disabilities.
  • Communication Skills - Able to clearly present information through the spoken or written word; read and interpret complex information; listen well.
  • Integrity - Able to be tactful, maintain confidence, and foster an ethical work environment; prevent inappropriate behavior by co-workers; give proper credit to others; handle all situations honestly.
  • Relationship Management - Able to develop rapport with others and recognize their concerns and feelings; build and maintain long-term associations based on trust; help others.
  • Teamwork - Able to share due credit with co-workers; display enthusiasm and promote a friendly group working environment; work closely with other departments as necessary; support group decisions and solicit opinions from co-workers; display team spirit.
