POSITION OVERVIEW

The paediatrician will provide expert medical management for children undergoing tertiary orthopaedic and plastic/burn reconstructions. In this role, you will help develop and deliver comprehensive pre- and post-operative care, with a focus on evaluating and managing high-risk, syndromic, and acutely unwell patients. You will work closely with surgical and anaesthesia teams to optimise patient outcomes throughout the perioperative pathway.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Clinical and Perioperative Care

Conduct regular inpatient ward rounds, outpatient clinics, and pre-operative evaluations for surgical patients, routine assessments for children under 5 years of age and those with syndromic conditions.
Provide outpatient care for specific medical referrals, including children with cerebral palsy (preferably within a Multidisciplinary Team clinic) and those under 5 presenting with bowed legs.
Lead the evaluation and management of acutely unwell surgical inpatients, reviewing all high-dependency (HDU) and major post-operative cases.
Serve as the primary medical escalation point for junior medical staff, managing complex non-surgical issues such as post-operative infections, fluid/metabolic imbalances, and complex analgesia.

Service Development and Interdisciplinary Leadership

Drive combined medical-surgical programs, including Cleft Lip/Palate care, Osteogenesis Imperfecta/Zoledronic Acid infusion clinics, and the Resuscitation (PALS) team.
Partner with Pharmacy, the Drugs & Therapeutics Committee, and the Quality, Patient Safety (QPS) manager to refine clinical guidelines and enhance patient safety.

Governance, Quality and Education

Lead clinical governance and quality improvement initiatives, including active participation in Morbidity & Mortality (M&M) reviews and the development of evidence-based medical protocols.
Educate and mentor junior medical staff, clinical fellows, and nursing personnel on the medical management of paediatric surgical patients.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

A Medical degree
Successful completion of a residency and fellowship in pediatrics
Specialist Certification: MRCPCH (UK), MMed Paeds, FCPaed / equivalent board certification.
A current and unrestricted medical license to practice paediatrics (included on the Specialist Register)
Two (2) years experience in a hospital setup.
ACLS, BLS & PALS certified (these can be updated in the hospital).
