CURE Children's Hospital of Uganda, a Private-Not-For-Profit (PNFP) Christian Hospital specialised in Pediatric Neurosurgery and Integrated Spiritual Ministry, is seeking an experienced Individual for the Part -time position of Hospital Security Assistant.

Position Title:          Hospital Security Assistant
Reports to:              Hospital Security Supervisor
Supervises:             None 
Duty Station:           CURE Children’s Hospital of Uganda

Location:                 Mbale, Uganda
Duration:                 Part  time - Fixed Term
POSITION OVERVIEW:
To maintain safe and secure environment for patients, caretakers and employees by patrolling and monitoring hospital premises.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting Function    

  • Records entry & exit of hospital vehicles, visitors, patients and employees coming in and out of the hospital during work hours available.
  • Prevents losses and damage by reporting irregularities; informing violators of policy and procedures; and restraining trespassers. Screens persons and baggage for unauthorized items. Directs patients, relatives, and other visitors to the reception and /or outpatients, diagnostic center and wards.
  • Completes reports by recording observations, information, occurrences, and surveillance activities; interviewing witnesses; obtaining signatures.

Traffic Flow Control

  • Controls traffic by directing drivers, and opens gates for incoming and outgoing traffic.

Customer Care Function         

  • Observe good customer care when dealing with people.
  • Answers telephone calls promptly and gives assistance to callers.

Patrolling

  • Obtains help by sounding alarms.
  • Secures premises and personnel by patrolling property; monitoring surveillance equipment; inspecting buildings, equipment, and access points; and permitting entry. Watches and monitors hospital grounds and property.

Safety and Control Function

  • Maintains environment by monitoring and setting building and equipment controls.
  • Maintains the organization's stability and reputation by complying with legal requirements.

Maintenance of Security Equipment    

  • Ensures operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; and evaluating new equipment and techniques.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Continuing Professional Development Activities

  • Identifies and pursues continuing professional development activities in line with their position and maintains professional records that provide evidence of activities completed.
  • Works with one’s supervisor to guide in mentorship and coaching for continual professional growth.

Occupational Health & Safety Function

  • Following & complying with H&S policies, processes & applying them to your own work activities, including using/wearing Personal Protective Equipment as required.
  • Participating in activities directed at preventing harm & promoting well-being in the workplace Identifying, reporting & self-managing hazards where appropriate.

Spiritual Ministry

  • Participates in the hospital's Spiritual Ministry Programs
  • Attend Chapel and departmental bible studies (depending on weekly schedule)

Punctuality and Attendance

  • Report to work as scheduled.
  • Report to work on time as per schedule.

Participation in Meetings

  • Attend and participate in department meetings as scheduled
  • Attend and participate in general co-workers’ meetings as scheduled.

Education / Experience Requirements:

  • Completed certificate in Security training from a reputable school/security firm is an added advantage
  • Education level between S1-S6
  • Must have work experience in security of at least one to three years
  • Must have no criminal record.
  • Must possess basic knowledge about firefighting and communication devices
  • Must be able to think clearly during emergency and urgent situations
  • Must have good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to handle or process confidential documents or material in an appropriate manner
  • Ability to read, write and speak English and one other language
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision
  • Ability to learn new security practices as may be needed
  • Ability to work both night and day shifts
  • Must be in a good physical and mental state
  • Must be safety-conscious
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.     

This position is a Part-time fixed-term, renewable and based in Mbale. The deadline for receipt of applications is Open until position is filled.
