CURE Children’s Hospital of Uganda has an exciting opportunity for a Neurosurgeon to join the team in Mbale, Uganda. CURE Children's Hospital of Uganda is a Private-Not-For-Profit (PNFP) Christian hospital specialized in pediatric neurosurgery and integrated spiritual ministry.

The Neurosurgeon will be responsible to provide high quality neurosurgery and medical consultations to all categories of CURE Uganda’s outpatients and inpatients in coordination with the Medical Director. The Neurosurgeon will ensure a high-level of safety for both patients and staff, adhering to all the quality standards of CURE.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Examine patients, determine the need for clinical laboratory tests and interpret examination findings and test results.
Prescribe appropriate neurological treatments based on findings and results.
Determine procedures for preoperative and postoperative care, including the administration of sedatives, prescription of diets and preparation of the patient’s operative area.
Perform surgical procedures and coordinate operations with the anesthesiologist aimed at resolving problems with the nervous system.
Treat patients suffering from surgical shock, postoperative hemorrhage and other complications.
Direct other operating room staff in procedures for preoperative and postoperative care and operating room techniques.
Serve as a consultant to other staff on the use of electroencephalographic apparatus and other neurological diagnostic and therapeutic equipment.
Meet with the families of patients undergoing surgery to update them on the patient’s condition.
Assist the Medical Director in ensuring the maintenance of an accurate and adequate supply of medications and supplies.
Ensure the safety of patients during consultations, surgical interventions and in the postoperative environment.
Participate in training and development of medical officers and other medical team members, including the hands-on training of medical officers in the operating room.
Identify and maintain a number of governmental, non-governmental and community-based organizational relationships that are integral to the mission of CURE International.
Participate in the hospital’s Spiritual Ministry programs.

REQUIRED SKILLS, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:

Medical Degree and Residency in Neurosurgery from qualified, recognized medical institutions.
Maintain current practicing licensure in good standing; board certification as applicable.
Highly proficient in Neurosurgical procedures.
Two (2) years work experience in hospital practice; experience operating in the East Africa region strongly preferred.
Strong interest in teaching and training.
Excellent verbal and written use of the English language.
Must demonstrate a sincere commitment to the Core Values and Mission of CURE Children’s Hospital of Uganda.
