POSITION OVERVIEW:
Ensuring personal and kitchen hygiene to make the kitchen suitable for food preparation. Cleaning of all kitchen utensils, equipment, serving tea to different stations, cleaning serving areas, walls cupboards, walls, windows, dirty surfaces, sinks, floors, drains. Assisting the chef on preparation of meals, and ensuring that serving time is always kept. 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Assisting the Chefs in preparing meals
  • Ensuring that the kitchen and serving areas are well cleaned.  
  • Assisting the chef to serve meals to staff, patients and guardians
  • Unloading equipment and food from deliveries &Ensuring the storeroom remains organized
  • Carrying out basic cleaning tasks as fast as possible
  • Collecting and washing up pots and pans.         
  • Cleaning crockery & cutlery and ensuring food preparation sites are clean and ready

Other duties

  • Daily preparation of meals.
  • Daily personal and serving place hygiene to be a priority
  • Making sure that all cooking utensils are ready and clean enough to be used by Chefs when needed
  • Daily Cleaning of all kitchen utensils, all kitchen equipment and weekly, cleaning walls, cup boards 
  • Food Safety, storage & Hygiene

Qualifications & Requirements
The Kitchen Assistant is required to have the following: -

  • Post Secondary qualification in Housekeeping or relevant qualification.
  • Those with certificate in cookery will have an added advantage. 
  • At least 2 years’ experience in a busy kitchen preferably hospital setting.
  • Willing to learn and a heart to serve
